The first episode of Historical Context explores some of the themes this podcast will discuss.

A few post-episode notes:

  • The Big Mac was first introduced in 1967 at a few restaurants owned by a Franchisee in Pittsburgh, and it went national about a year later in 1968
  • A chalupa is an actual dish served in parts of central Mexico, to nobody’s surprise, it does not resemble the chalupas at Taco Bell
    • I don’t have any written records to back this up, but based on my memory the Gordita came out in 1997 (at least where I lived) and then the Chalupa hit in 1999.
  • The Honda Accord came out in 1976, but starting in 1982 some Accord production began in Ohio, which marked the first time a JapaneseĀ car was produced in the US.
  • Michael Jackson did release severalĀ of solo albums under the Motown label before Off the Wall and Thriller
